Food content is possibly one of the most viewed videos on the internet. Every now and then, we come across videos featuring people tasting different types of foods, cooking unique recipes and more. One such video by a food blogger didn’t go well with the people on the internet. And guess what; it resulted in a police probe against her. According to an AFP report, an influencer from China, who goes by the pseudonym Tizi, is being investigated after a clip of her roasting and eating a great white shark went viral. Police in the central city of Nanchong states that she was seen “feasting on the predatory fish”. However, the video was deleted later.
The now-deleted video features Tizi unwrapping a two-meter-long fish and barbecuing the meat. She stated (in the video), “It may look vicious, but its meat is truly very tender.” She was also seen cooking the fish head in a spicy broth.
The video in no time went all over the internet, with people reacting to it strongly. A person wrote, “It is flabbergasting that an internet celebrity can eat a protected animal in front of millions in broad daylight!” Another person said, “These uncultured attention-mongers will stoop very low to attract eyeballs!”
For the unversed, great white sharks are listed as a vulnerable species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The AFP report further explains that these fishes are listed as protected in China, and any kind of illegal possession (of the fish) can lead to a five-to-10-year imprisonment.
Speaking about the incident, Tizi told a local media that she got the fish through “legal channels”; however, the local administration claimed the statement to be “inconsistent with the facts”.
