Kenley Jansen gets important update on irregular heartbeat

The Atlanta Braves placed Kenley Jansen on the 15-day IL after the star closer was dealing with an irregular heartbeat. It’s not the first time Jansen has dealt with this issue throughout his career, but it’d been a few years since he’d faced any complications. despite getting placed on the IL due to his irregular heartbeat, Mark Bowman Indicates that Jansen is expecting to return to action for the Braves after the minimum possible stay on the shelf.

Jansen will first be eligible to return to action on July 12, and he fully expects to be activated at that point. Bowman reports that Jansen initially noticed some irregularities in his heartbeat in late June but continued on to make four more appearances in relief before hitting the IL, at which point he underwent a procedure to get his heart “shocked back in place.”

The veteran reliever has been sidelined three times in the past with complications involving his heartbeat, dating back to 2011. He’s undergone multiple procedures to address the issue, including one as recently as 2018.

This season, Jansen has made 32 relief appearances, recording 20 saves and logging a 3.58 ERA. He has 47 strikeouts across 32.2 innings but has blown 4 saves already this season. Last year with the Dodgers, he had 5 blown saves throughout 69 appearances throughout the season.
