LeBron James, LA make 2 new signings after NBA Draft

The Los Angeles Lakers made a big move on Thursday ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft when they decided to trade for the Orlando Magic’s No. 35 pick. LA ended up drafting Max Christie in the second round as they look to add some depth to their backcourt. As it turns out, the Lakers weren’t done.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that the Lakers have decided to fill up their roster by signing two new players. The first of them comes with a highly-recognizable name:

Vanderbilt guard Scotty Pippen Jr. has agreed to a two-way NBA contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium,

Yes, he is the son of Hall of Famer and six-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, Scottie Pippen. Right now, Pippen Jr. will hope to his mark with the Lakers as he fights for a roster spot for the new season.

The same can be said for Cole Swyder, a 6-foot-9 forward from Syracuse. The 23-year-old is expected to fill the team’s last roster spot:

Syracuse sharpshooter Cole Swider has agreed to a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium, Swider and Pippen Jr. take over the Lakers’ two slots.

LeBron James and Co. did not exactly make a splash on Thursday, but at least they made some moves. This could be an indication of the type of activity we can expect from them for the rest of the summer.
