metaverse: McDonald’s wants a bite of the Metaverse, here’s how


American fast food giant McDonald’s is planning to make an entry into the metaverse with its virtual restaurant concept. The company’s new idea of metaverse brings both virtual and physical worlds together, where the company is expected to offer both real and virtual items that can be delivered to people as well.
The food giant has filed several trademarks, 10 to be exact, at the US Patent and Trademark Office (UPTO) on February 4 that includes both McDonald’s and McCafe.
The trademark attorney and founder of Washington, DC-based Gerben Intellectual Property, Josh Gerben has revealed some details about it via its official Twitter handle.
The screen recording shared by Gerben suggests that the fast-food chain is planning to introduce virtual food and beverage as downloadable multimedia files that will have artwork, text, audio, videos, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The screen recording says: “Operating a virtual restaurant featuring actual and virtual goods, operating a virtual restaurant online featuring home delivery.”
The fast-food giant is also planning to introduce entertainment services as a part of the virtual restaurant, where the company will provide “on-line actual and virtual concerts and other events”.
Gerben has also told Forbes that USPTO will most likely approve the trademarks. However, the review process usually takes around eight to nine months.
Whether the USPTO approves the trademark or not, but it is sure that McDonald’s has a big plan for the metaverse and most importantly, the company is also planning to merge the physical world with the virtual world.
Also, at the moment, we have no idea how the entire physical delivery feature will work. But from what we can understand is that if people order food in metaverse, McDonald’s will actually deliver it to their doorstep, just like it happens with the app.
