Why Kevin Durant trade is ‘unlikely’ despite Dubs interest

A major bombshell was recently revealed about Kevin Durant reportedly being “in conversation” with his former Golden State Warriors teammates about a potential return to the Dubs. KD has been angling for a trade away from the Brooklyn Nets and at this point, the Warriors have emerged as a potential landing spot for the former league MVP.

The Golden State is being cautiously optimistic, though. They would not pass on the opportunity to land a generational talent in Kevin Durant, but at the same time, they are anything but desperate. According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athleticthe general sentiment within the Warriors camp is that a KD reunion probably won’t happen:

With that said, according to multiple sources in the Warriors organization, a reunion is highly unlikely. Nothing about the last three years suggests the Warriors would be willing to pay the price for a KD return. That price is likely (and reportedly) an All-Star-caliber player, young talent and a heap of draft picks.

The Warriors won the title with their current team, and they’re going to be back with the same core next season to defend their crown. Above anything, this appears to be the biggest reason behind Golden State’s unwillingness to break the bank for KD:

Sources made it clear they are fine defending their title with Wiggins, Poole and the young players they’ve been grooming to win with them. But if the universe somehow sets it up so legends reunite, they’d be open to it.

Simply put, the Warriors want KD. I mean, who wouldn’t, right? The only thing for the Warriors is that they’re more than happy with their current squad, and they have no intention of moving heaven and earth to land Durant.
